If you can get into NYU or Columbia -- then NYC would be a great place for college. If you would have to go to a different school in NYC, then I would not recommend it -- as you could probably get into a better school elsewhere.

I lived in NYC for ten years. Sure, there are rough places in NYC -- but if you are careful, you needn't worry about them. In general, there are a lot of big cities that are worse (DC, Philadelphia, New Orleans, etc).

NYU is in Greenwich Village -- which is a great place to live if you are young.

I see that others have suggested Stony Brook and Princeton. Stony Brook is about 80 minutes East on Long Island. I've heard that it is a nice suburban setting. It doesn't sound like that is what you want.

Princeton is about 90 minutes outside NYC -- and is a nice place to live if you have a family and lots of money. Instead of college hangouts across the street from the university, Princeton has fancy French restaurants and shops that sell Wedgewood Vases and Waterford Crystal. If you like cities -- Princeton is not the place to be (if you want Ivy League -- then Columbia, Penn and Harvard offer city settings).

i personally lived in ny for 16 years and i would advise you not to go to nyu not becuase its a bad school but its really really hard becuase the proffs are really hard on you becuase you live in the city and they except alot more from you, new york itself is big.. nyc isnt rough unless you go to harlem ( the black part (( no racism intended )) ) just very expensive and very busy to live in, a good college in ny that is less expensive and less busy is Stony Brook University its a great school with a big campus and on campus dorms which is pretty cool. hope this helps if not email me @ ifucouldbeme@yahoo.com ill leave a link to stoney brook below

There are a few pleasant faculties in NY. It is a little bit overdue to get began at the admissions system. You will have to have began a couple of months in the past. Go to Princeton Review's internet web site. They have a device in which you'll be able to input knowledge approximately your heritage and pursuits. It then indicates universities which are proper for you.

If you have a ton of money. I'm sure you would enjoy the city. But $$$ intensive.
