Radicals and free-thinkers are extremely confident people. They know exactly what they want from life and are willing to do whatever it takes to achieve it-whether it's generally acceptable or not. "Rebels" and other non-conformist individuals tend to be leader-types, and as some have already said here-a good many people are followers.
Self-confidence is an admirable and desirable trait. It naturally attracts people.

Free thinkers? Nah, I prefer a yes-man who doesn't have an original thought in his head and kisses the butt of The Man by joining the brainwashed masses. Conformity is just so sexy!

Free thinkers act like entertainers, which generates interest, which looks like attraction. It is not necessarily attraction.

Thinking for one's self is very attractive and refreshing! It is a show of confidence and conviction. Who wants to be with someone who always "goes along" just to get along? Not me.

Most people are followers. That's why. Even Charles Manson attracted followers, ya know?
