It's just an old wives take. She should wait. It's not going to be all that long, and the baby needs all the time he can get to develop.

The castor oil isn't going to hurt anything, but I doubt it will induce labor. If your sister really wants to deliver at a specific time she needs to talk to her doctor. Lots of people have reasons for inducing labor, and if the doctor feels the baby is healthy and ready there are things that can be done. The important thing is that the doctor or midwife is involved. Castor oil is safe, but there are lot of "folk remedies" that could be big trouble. Some thing that is perfectly safe, lots of fun, and could work is sex. Good sex can set off a chain reaction. Nothing crazy of course, this isn't the time for craziness.

I have tried this before, looking abck though I woill not do it again. The truth is it will give her a good bowel movement and even make her misraible, her stomach will cramp so bad that she may contract some, and dialte some, but will not go into full labor. If she gets to a 3 maybe a 4 her doctor will break her water, but that is hard to do. Truthfully, she needs to wait ti out even though its about safe to have the aby now, if anything goes wrong she will balme herself.
I am 27 weeks now and will not do it again, besides I still have trouble with greasy foods, lip glosses etc, becasue of the thought of that nasty stuff...lol

My second was born at 36 weeks and had respiratory issues. She should definitely wait (until maybe 39-40 weeks). 37 weeks is still preterm, and the baby may not quite be ready. She doesn't want the baby to end up with any heath issues. Better safe than sorry - the waiting sucks, I know, but it's well worth the wait to have a healthy baby!

If you employ castor oil DO NOT drink it. First off it tastes nasty, secondly it motives diarrhea and you don't desire that even as you're in hard work. If you're going to make use of it rub it for your stomach and canopy the discipline w/ saran wrap and position a heating pad or wet wash garments over it. It nonetheless is helping to urge hard work w/ out the unhealthy facet results. I will alert you it's messy despite the fact that! Also, rubbing your nipples for elevated intervals of time, intercourse and strolling aid to urge contractions additionally.

Why is she in such a hurry to "induce"? If she was 42 wks, castor oil would work, but at 37, it's just going to give her miserable diarrhea. She needs to be patient.

I wouldn't take it. I am 39 weeks along and very anxious as well to have my baby. Castrol Oil can cause extreme diarreah and vomitting. At that you can get dehydrated, and alot of the time you will here from mothers to be that it didn't bring labour on for them. So is it worth it? Tell her to do natural sutff, like walking, having sex, drink natural teas etc. Look up on google and see what natural sources she can go about.

NO NO NO NO NO...it can cause the fetus to get the shits and ingest it's own feces which can in turn cause cerebral palsy in the fetus...castor oil is NOT for labor induction. That is an old wives tale at best and MAJOR medical problems for an infant at worst. That is unless your sister WANTS to risk the health of her fetus.

my friend had her baby last week, she was due 3 days prior and about 6 days before her due date she tried castor oil and walking. All the castor oil did was make her vomit. I think if it worked for someobody it was probably just a coincidence. My friend was determined to have her baby by her due date and it did not work for her.My mom also tried it when she was pg with me and it diddnt work for her either.
