Yes, swamp coolers work well in any low humidity area..

actually yes they do work very good but use up tons of energy. of course having a normal air conditioner would destroy your energy bill also because it would be running constantly. the swamp cooler just cools the house down more quickly but uses about the same amount of juice.

I live in AZ and love mine! They are much cheaper than AC, but depend on dry air. If I were you, I would get a portable on to use during the Santa Anas or any other dry time. If you are near the coast, you wouldn't need it as much as the valley.

Probably too humid there! Get a real A/C unit!

It is better than nothing but does not compare with A/C. If you are considering it DON'T.
