is it worth $500. to have it towed and then sit in my driveway until I figure out the problem. In your shoes, what could "carberator issues" mean? he said it doesn't have a key, but all papers are good. Could the whole not starting problem be a bad ignition? WHAT DO YOU THINK?

If you can crank it without a key here's what to do.

Get some starter fluid and spray a bit into the carb. Crank it and if it fires up, the ignition is good.

You can also look down into the carb (choke open) and quickly push the throttle open, you should see a squirt of gas if the carb's pump is OK.

To start pull one of the spark plugs and turn the car over a couple of time and if you notice a spark you have ignition. If not, it is an ignition problem. If there is a spark replace the plug and spray some starting fluid down the carb into the intake. Then crank the ingine, it should fire up and run for a few seconds. If so, then it is a carb problem. Carbs are a very fickle part of the older cars. They could be rebuilt by you or a shop. I have found the best is to go to junk yards, on line and flea markets and buy several carbs for my older vehicles and try them all until you get the best running one. Unless you know what you are doing this does not sound like a good investment for you, it will sit for a long time until you get it figured out.
