A very effective method is to have two sources of food, one a dry mix that you can make yourself or buy from a hermit crab food store online. Then in a separate dish offer them fresh foods. Some hermit crab favorites are
silversides
mangos
papaya
honey
popcorn
coconut
bloodworms
maple leaves
you can go to www.epicureanhermit.com to find a very thorough list of safe and unsafe foods
you can purchase dry foods from
www.hermitcrabaddictionstore.com
and
The Happy Hermit Crab store on ebay

I used to own hermit crabs and because their scavengers they will eat practically anything. I used to give mine lettuce, carrot, bread, ceral and things like that.
By observing what they eat the fastest you can work out what they like most.
Although if you want to go for the natural ways then small dead fish are the way to go, you can buy frozen shrimp and things like that at most pets shops :)

Those little critters will eat just about anything. Try the little shrimp in the gold fish department.
