It appears many people understand that these "scandals" are mostly trivial things being elevated to a national interest by a Democratic Congress that is powerless to actually DO anything (since they can't overide veto's). Can they keep this up all the way to the 2008 election? If we see it, doesn't everyone? And, if so, won't it negate the effect since the country is so evenly split between Conservatives and Liberals?

Chi: I hardly think a rational arguement could be made for blaming veteran care on Bush alone. Veteran care has been a low national priority for 40 years. Not that I agree with that, but horrible VA facilities are nothing new, in example. So it falls in the hyperbolic scandal file, I think.

On the flip side, I'm very glad it has national attention now, and I hope this ends decades of neglect;-)

Libby was convicted of lying, not exposing Valerie Plame, of course. Lying isn't a scandal, on such a trivial issue, by my way of thinking. But hey, that's me.

Chi: Don't you think I'd make a better spin control guy than who they've got though? ;-)

g: Good retort, and good point. One could easily say the Democrats are doing what they can, and it is indeed Bush shattering their dreams. However, that is always how it has worked. The two branches must be partners. The legislative must send bills the excutive can live with.

Bush has vetoed less legislation than any President in the last 50 years, I think he's been quite fair, indeed.

g: Also, spin needn't change the opinion of any current Democrat, which, I assume, you are (If incoreect, my appologies). How things are perceived only matters to the swing voters, who now control this country. This question was about how swing voters will perceive all these scandals. Will they see them as a procession of legitimate qualms, or the result of a powerless Congress with two much time on their hands, and an election approaching?

I didn't realize that the Scooter Libby CONVICTION was a trivial thing. Surely you jest.

The Walter Reed VA hospital treatment of wounded troops like refuge must of been trivial as well. Come come now...

Plame's civil suit against Cheney (a seated VP) has to be a first. Is this trivial too?

I've heard of playing things down before Bret but you'd need a nuke to evaporate the stench of this administration.

Nice try...

edit:

VA Scandal: The difference today is that freshly wounded soldiers fighting Bush's war were mistreated by the Rumsfailed pentagon. This being a time of war shows how ill prepared, yet again, the Bush admin is.

The Libby trial domino is more than simple perjury. It opens the door for obstruction of justice to protect the sitting VP of the USA. It also opened the door further for the CIA leak hearings AND Plame's civil suit against the VP and others. Very big deal. Even bigger than sex in the oval office.

Your spin is much better received than the ones spinning now. So yes.

just because Bush wants to shut down the government with vetos? I should blame the dems?

they were elected to pass legislation... they are passing it... and they are passing the legislation the public voted them in to pass... they ran on the bills they are passing... and they won the elections...

if Bush vetoes it... THAT'S ON BUSH... he's stalling up the legislation that the public voted the congress in to pass...

they have done their job...

Bush won't get ANYTHING done either... can he keep that up to 08? do you think voters won't hold the upcoming Republicans responsible for Bush's mistakes?

but, IS A REPUBLICAN talking about scandals... after they blew the Clinton scandal (that had MUCH less substance than any scandal this year) UP 10 times the amount of any scandal the Republicans have had?

do you even have a glass house left? I'm sure it shattered long ago? get tired of being rained on?

Scooter was the prime target of that duffus prosecuter-- he already knew who first mentioned mrs.wilson-- because scooter got m.rich a pardon from slick willie and this "special" prosecutor was the u.s. attorney who was out to get mark rich! He got his man. Mrs.wilson was NOT covert so there was not even a crime there..
Al gonzoles is president Bush's man-- and he answers to the pres. The pres can fire any or all of the u.s.attnys he wishes without consulting anyone any time he wishes. If the congress wants an A.G.-- they can go to work changing the constitution and get thier own a.g.! The only mistake made was both bush and albert said some mistakes were made-- they both should have just flipped off the entire democrat party, let them whine that bunch of babies!

Those that can't legislate, Investigate. The investigations were predicted after the election by the right and left media commentators. The consensus being to do as much damage by 2008. I believe that the America people will be fed up with it by election time. Bush did not get in by G.O.P. votes alone nor did Clinton get in by Dem. votes alone.

they will continue, unfortunately. With Scooter Libbey, they started their inquisition, they are fishing for dirt, since they cannot find any,the same with the firing of the 9 attorneys. They couldve been fired at any time, and the left media fails to report that former presidents have done the same and that any investigations continue no matter whos in the positions. They(congress) can defund the war,out right, but they wont do that, because it will expose them completly and kill their one tool for harassment,to the president and his regime. Most people are blinded by their anger for Bush to see whats happening, blinded by the fraud of global warming,,endless scandals, and attacks with no meat in them. These are all smoke screens to put the simple minded, into disarray since they have candidates with no substance..unfortunatly we get the candidates we vote for as seen in the elections of 2006 and look what its got us

I think its time for a new party to enter the spectrum. I know that I am neither conservative or liberal, and I know that there are many who agree with me... Lets bring back the Wigg party. =) Open mindedness!! Viva La revolution.
