Dwarf Hamsters (all hamsters) prefer to be solitary. If you try keeping many in there they will more than likely be fighting all the time and killing each other. You could use some dividers though, and still use the 55 gallon. Theoretically. But I agree that you shouldn't be breeding them. You plan on getting 2 babies? Wouldn't that mean they were related? Why the heck would you breed a brother and sister? Why would you breed anything that is so often unwanted and neglected by so many people?

the answerer above is right...if you have a whole bunch in there, they will fight. i would keep it under10..after all they can only utilize the bottom of the tank-which really isnt that big. Also if you have several adults in together with babies-they will kill the babies-I would have only the litter of babies and the mom together.and keep the others in a seperate cage....you really have alot more research to do on this subject before you begin...talk to your local pet shop owner/worker...and google dwarf hampsters on your computer.....this might help too:

the typical 55 gal is 48x13x20... the typical adult dwarf is 2" or so... I'd say over 6000 really.... and as settling will occur, you can probably top 'er off with a hundred or so more in a few days.... of course... as they decompose, well... anyway... you could continue to add more over the next several months.... and when this gets old, compost it and grow plants.

Why do you want to breed them? For shame on the irresponsibility.
