Something useful or challenging. Like Spanish or Mandarin Chinese. Spanish is the third most-used language in the world, absolutely beautiful, and not too hard. Chinese is the second most-used language in the world, beautiful to write and read, but extremely difficult to learn.

Well, Spanish is an up and coming language in the U.S. which I happen to teach.
German is a good commerce language, especially if you are in the far east where they do a lot of work for German companies. But, the saying in German is... "Deutsche Sprache, schwere Sprache." The German language is a hard langugage...
