I know of two ways. One is freeze it with an ice cube and freeze it out. The other is to use Avon Skin so soft on it. Working it out slowly with the oil! Then of course you have to clean of the area with detergent after wards or carpet shampoo!!

Put ice cubes on the gum until the gum hardens. This will make it easier for the gum to be removed from the carpet strands.

I have used Goo Gone personally, but my husband swears by canned air (like you clean electronics with). He says you put the nozzle right up to the gum and spray it so it freezes it and makes it rock hard.then you can break it up. Good luck - I have had to deal with a whole jar of molasses in my carpet but never gum (knocking on wood)!

use an ice cube to harden the gum (keep it in a ziplock bag so that the melted ice does not get the rest of the surrounding carpet wet) Then once it is hard it is easier to remove.

take a paper sack like from the grocery store and use an iron to iron over it, the gum should melt and stick to the sack, make sure to pull the sack up quick so that the gum doesnt melt back onto the carpet.

wd40 will remove it. spray the gum, let set a few minutes, then using paper towels pull it out. You will then to clean the spot with some carpet cleaner like Woolite Oxy pro to get the wd40 spot.

Liquid nitrogen or Freon. You can usually find tiny spray cans at Home Depot or Builders Square for just such a thing. Spray the gum, chip it out and your done.

i used to work for this store that sold it. the stuff does wonders, including removing chewing gum. i keep a bottle of it at home. it's fairly inexpensive, too. you can pick it up at your local hardware/home improvement store.
