Taiwan could still be a better option comparing China and US. You may also explore India for such production.

Have you received any feedback on your gift items. Please first expose to relatives, friends and some critics and find if they are acceptable to others, whether similar products are available in the market (Which you can check by browsing the web), whether you could reduce the price and still improve the product. Once you get positive feedback, then you can do the following.
1. Advertise the product in India and abroad (Through portal, Internet, Blog etc)
2. Get finance support from Banks or from Indian industry (Industrialists). If the items are good and have market potentiality people will jump for that.
3. Conduct exhibitions in Indian cities and try convincing about the marketability of the product.
4. Many state small Industry departments will help you to market/manufacture your product. (Tamil nadu is one such state)
So try these.

You can't get something mass produced until you have purchase orders. You are asking the wrong questions. You should be asking: how am I going to sell my products? Who is going to buy them? Getting them produced in China is easy. Just use a U.S.-based China sourcing company like mine: Chinatown Sourcing. Right now you need product prototypes you can take around to potential buyers to get purchase orders. How will you handle financing terms, inventory, just-in-time delivery? If you are not currently in the business of distributing gift items then you should buy the book "Bankable Business Plans" and get a sense of what it takes to establish a business. When you're ready to talk about mass production give me a call: 212-847-7175. See my other posts on this topic for more info. Good luck -Hank
