American Idol asks viewers to vote for their favorite, not who should go home. The voting is set up so that the favorite contestant will win.

Each week, Idol gets rid of the contestant with the least votes. It doesn't mean that the contestant that leaves is the worst, only that the contestant was selected as a favorite by the fewest number of calls.

Someone who doesn't sing well but who is cute and appeals to young women can draw a lot more votes than someone who is forgettable.

Last week, there were four R&B female contestants. The R&B votes were split. The best three singers grabbed most of the votes and so Stephanie went home. A singer like Gina doesn't have much competition for the rock vote, so she has a better chance of remaining on the show.

first of all --there is a website called VotefortheWorst.com (or something like that) promoting the vote for Sanjaya. And also Howard Stern-the shockjock- is pushing people to go along with it on his Sirus Cable Radio show. He has over 6 million subscribers--this could totally change the results of the outcome of Idol if their producers don't change the way the show is run soon. I've also been watching "Grease-You're the One That I Want" and they gave the judges a choice between the bottom two and they could save the one they felt was the best. Sometimes it was the one the popular vote would have gotten rid of. They also did this on "So You Think You Can Dance'" which is done by the same producers as "Idol". Randy, Paula and Simon really do nothing but give advice after the top 24 are chosen. The producer need to take control of this--and soon! Or they will be stuck with an "Idol" who cannot sing.
Do you remember when MTV was looking for a new VJ and it was between a guy who would be good and some slacker guy (can't remember the kids name) Popular vote got the slacker the gig but he was so stoned most of the time that any show he was on was regulated to late night viewing. You would have thought that the producers of "Idol" would have remembered this and would have taken into consideration the perversity of the American Public!

Sinjaya isn't going home because there are a lot of people at home having fun voting for him simply for the laughs. Vote for the worst. com, Howard Stern listeners and tweens are all voting for Sinjaya. The tweens love SInjaya and everyone else thinks that it would be a riot if Sinjaya actually won the competition. Hey! If Taylor Hicks could win and Jennifer Hudson was voted out...anything is possible!

They'll have to let the celebrity judges take over the decision. Too many people are voting for the worst...and ruining the show.
