Stretchmarks are a shiny line, they are reddish at first but fade after awhile to look kind of like scars, they're on the skin of the abdomen, breasts, thighs, or buttocks that is often lighter than the surrounding skin and is caused by the stretching and weakening of elastic tissues as a result of pregnancy or obesity, for example.
To prevent them keep your skin well moistened and avoid rapid weight gain. If you have them try stretch mark creams like cocoa Shea butter.

When your skin stretches, sometimes certain areas don't have the same elasticity as other parts (I think). Stretching most often occurs in normal growth, weight gain, pregnancy - causing crater-like marks. If you've lost a lot of weight, you're more likely to get the outward marks as the skin comes together, but doesn't shrink back the same.
Sorry, but you can't get rid of them. All the creams on the market have been proven to not be effective. The simple task of massaging lotion in your skin will give the same effect. GENETICS plays a very big role! I have a few from pregnancy (lotioned almost every day), but my sister's stomach has a lot of stretch marks from pregnancy. Some people's skin is just more prone to it. I think you CAN see a dermatologist, who might do a laser or other treatment if it's really bothersome.

Stretchmarks are when your skin is stretched faster than it can grow (often due to weight gain or pregnancy). I believe, your dermis (where new skin cells grow from), which is below your epidermis, stretches to the point of seperating.
As far as I know this is not something you can get rid of without surgery.

Your skin is stretching. (This happens to pregnant women, men and women who were once small and now have gained weight, body builders, weightlifters.)
You can use a fading cream (Ambi, Dr. Palmer's, Cocoa butter), it works for a lot of people, it depends on the marks. A comestic doctor may be able to tell you more.

Stretch marks are from you skin stretching beyond its capacity or from gaining weight quickly. They are actually on the most inner layer of skin and unfortunately there is no way of getting rid of the however they will fade over time.

Scar tissue from your skin being stretched too fast. Slather with lots of vitamin E.
I wish I'd known about it when I was pregnant 32 years ago, but noone seemed to know the answer then, how to prevent them and stop the itching.

They look like light stripes and are almost invisible, so there is really no need to get rid of them...they appear on the breasts, hips, and belly if the weight gain happens too fast, as diring the pegnancy for example.

I've always been real skinny, but have muscular legs and got some on my inside thighs while growing. They got little to no nerves and have stayed about the same for a few years.
