scientology believes in a purification process which i believe to be brainwashing as proven by their teachings that a scientologist cannot associate with someone outside of the faith..... of course if your tom cruise and you donate lots of money to them theyll bend the rules for you and let you talk to your ex nicole kidman..... tom has of course completly lost his mind in that he has absolutely no respect for anyone else in the human race unless you belong to his religion.....

Of COURSE it's a cult. I've answered several questions on Scientology, including inquiries like this one. Here are a couple of my answers:

Scientology is also very dangerous:

• Operation Snow White – Under this program, Scientology operatives committed infiltration, wiretapping, & theft of documents in government offices. This program constituted the single largest infiltration of the United States government in history. Among the 11 prominent Scientologists convicted of this conspiracy was Mary Sue Hubbard, the wife of Scientology’s “prophet”.

• Operation Freakout - Their campaign of sabotage & violence against Paulette Cooper, the writer who published her research & findings on several cults, including Scientology. Scientology’s official plan: to frame Paulette, ruin her career & reputation & get her either incarcerated or locked up in psychiatric confinement.
The official plan: http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/Krasel/cooper/frk1.html

• Fair Game - the Scientology policy detailing how the organization may confront & handle critics & perceived enemies. Here is a direct quote: "Enemies may be deprived of property or injured by any means by any Scientologist without any discipline of the Scientologist. May be tricked, sued or lied to or destroyed.”

• Physical and psychological maltreatment: Scientologists who "break the rules" while members of the "Sea Org" must subject themselves to the Rehabilitation Project Force (RPF), which includes regimes of harsh physical punishment, forced self-confessions, social isolation, hard labor and intensive ideological indoctrination.

• Violent Kidnapping - Lisa McPherson was a Scientologist, was involved in a car accident & resultantly became mentally unstable. She was kidnapped from the hospital by agents of Scientology, held against her will, refused proper psychiatric treatment & allowed to STARVE TO DEATH.

• Tragic Murder - A CBS “48 Hours” special on Jeremy Perkins, the mentally disturbed son of Scientologist parents who refused to put him on the anti-psychotic drugs that would have stabilized him & prevented him from killing his own mother.

While I understand that you have personal feelings about Scientology they will not change the actual facts.
Scientology is a religion.
Where did you get the idea that Scientologists "cannot associate with someone" who is not a Scientologist ?
Where did you get the belief that the Purification Rundown was "brainwashing" ?
Tom Cruise works on many humanitarian causes, including literacy, Human Rights, and established a centre for the use of the Purification Rundown for the Police and Firemen of New York City whose lives and health were effected by the toxic fumes they were exposed to during 9/11. (This is what the Purification Rundown deals with, it is also used widely in Drug and Alcohol addiction rehab)
I cannot agree with your feelings mainly because they are not based on any actual facts. It appears that you are basing your feelings on mis information, or false information.

But I guess if you want to feel this way about Scientology that's your choice. You are certainly among a minority in the real world , despite the misinformed agreement you might appear to receive on this forum.

To answer your question, no, you are not the only person who "feels" that Scientology is a cult. And, to clarify, the "purification process" has nothing to do with the "disconnect" policy whereby you are advised to not associate with or connect with persons who are negative about Scientology including any member of your family (parental or marital) or any of your pre-Scientology friends/acquaintences who may be trying to get you out of Scientology.
I suggest you go to www.dictionary.com and look up the word "cult" first.

Then, please know that $cientology puts so many meta tags in their websites that when you do a search at least the first 50 sites are all owned and operated by $cientology.

There are a lot of websites which are owned by the Church of Scientology and there are far more websites against Scientology. Do a search on Scientology and do not go to the websites that are $cientology based (these include the CCHR sites, the Narconon sites, Belief.net site, the Education sites and others which use $cientology "tech" in their companies represented by their websites).

Go to the other sites which will give you information from persons who have left or escaped from Scientology's infamous RPF (the $cientologist's jail).

After you have read all of the sites against $cientology, then, if you really want to know anything about $cientology do go to the Church of $cientology sites and make a decision for yourself as to whether it is a cult or not.

One piece of advice, do NOT go into your local $cientology center and take a "personality test". This test is based on an ancient IQ test something like the Minnesota Multiphasic IQ Test used somewhere around the 1950's and when interpreted by the $cientology rep who will explain it to you and point the areas where you need improvement and then go on to "reg" you (register you into the course which will start on all of the problems you have to work out to become a Clear and an Operating Thetan (just like the reg is supposed to be and isn't he/she lucky).

Almost all of the people you will meet within a $cientology center are genuinely nice people who truly do believe that $cientology is the "path" to being a "clear", "operating thetan", not held back by "mest" (translate that to Matter, Energy, Space or Time). If you stay in $cientology, you might really like it or, you may become very unhappy.

In closing, do not pass GO, just go to the website: http://www.xenu.net/roland-intro.html which is mentioned below and I know you will find the answer to your question

I know only some information about it, but what I do know of it, i'm not a big fan and find it to be "cult" like as well. All I know is that I do have a religion and I know I am agood person and I don't push my beliefs onto others. I take care of myself and the people I care for around me.

Granted, I learned all I know about Scientology from South Park. Seems far-fetched enough to be a cult to me.

I think scientology could be consider more of a cult for the rich. It is sad that ones "religion" would isolate him/her from people who think differently.

I associate with many different people, who have various religious beliefs, and I am glad that my parents and religious leaders have taught me that it is okay.

You know what I think of every time I hear something about Scientology? A skit about a cult that Adam Sandler put on one of his CD's. They keep chanting, "The nighttime is the right time!!" over and over.....
