I am 39 weeks pregnant I went to do my kick count tonight and the baby has only kicked about three times with in the last 1 and 1/2 hours...........
usuallt he kicks 10 times with in the first thirty minutes. I have tried drinking ice water, and I have been laying down in a quiet dark room. I'm a first tie mommy and I guess its just a little scary when things dont go exactly how they are supposed to......

Even with less space, baby should still be moving. Try some orange juice or a high sugar snack, then do the count again. You know your baby better than anyone else, so if this is a major decrease (and it sounds like it is) then definitely call your doctor. If you don't wanna do that then call the labor and delivery unit where you'll be delivering and tell them what's going on and see what they suggest. Good luck!

Generally they want you to call if it takes 2-3 hours, especially if that's not normal.

Try drinking some juice, something sugary. Wait a little bit then do your kick count again. If that doesn't get baby moving you do need to call. Both my babies were 10 minutes across the board with 1-2 occasions they took 15 or 20 minutes. So if I had suddenly taken 2+ hours I would have definitely made a phone call!

You're not by chance having contractions at all? Sometimes that will quiet baby when they're happening and sometimes that will aggrevate him. Mine were usually quiet during contractions but active otherwise. When the uterus contracts there is a reduction of blood flow to the baby and sometimes this can cause stress. You want to be certain that's not the case (if you're having some contractions). I would at least make a call to an advice nurse and see what she suggests.

Hi,

You must be so worried, but there's no real reason to. Get up, move around, and try drinking JUICE instead of ice water. The sugar kick might get him kicking. As you are about to find out, you can count on a baby sticking with a routine just long enough for you to recognise it as such ... then they change.

Try looking at http://www.babycenter.com/refcap/pregnancy/prenatalhealth/2872.html for some more information.

Ohwait - I just saw how far along you are. Hon, relax. I'm told that sometimes babies calm down just before labour starts. He also doesn't have a lot of room in there. YOu know he or she is still moving, just not as much as before.

That said, if you're at all worried, call your midwife or OB.

Congrats in advance, best of luck!

My mother had an expression "don't borrow trouble". That sounds to me exactly what you are doing. The baby has to sleep just like we do. Give that kid a break mom, he's just taking a nap or rest!! Kick count? Is this something new? Its funny but I had 2 children and never stressed myself out counting kicks. Maybe the baby is turned in such a way that it is kicking toward your spine, sweetie everything is fine. Call your doctor if you are really worried--that is why they get sooo much money because they are at your beck and call. Good Luck -k-

this is the nurse on your MIL speaking. some nurses get truly excited approximately that variety of component. no person even is conscious what a typical blood sugar point is for a new child. i became in simple terms analyzing by using my books approximately this comparable component final nighttime. that's a theoretical risk, as I comprehend it. Breastfed toddlers try this quicker or later. They sleep longer than you think of they ought to, then refuse to awaken. I promise you, you would recognize while your toddler desires to consume. as long as your toddler is eating usually something of the time, it is not a large deal. That reported, why in the international did you wait see you later to bypass to sleep final time? this is the actual situation. Sleep while your toddler sleeps, truly. you need to. i'm approximately to bypass take my very own suggestion precise now. i'd the two come to an contract with MIL earlier than time or tell her which you don't desire a stay in lactation representative this time around by way of fact you already recognize what you're doing. she will see the toddler in some weeks while he/she gets a sprint cuter besides.

I'm sure the baby is just fine. As long as he/she IS kicking I wouldn't worry too much. The space is getting much smaller less room to move around. After all he/she could just be sleeping. If you are really concerned call your Dr. just too ease your mind. Good Luck with delivery, already sounds like you are going to be a good mom.

don't know what a kick count is, Ive always heard it varies from day to day. If you are 39 weeks, the baby is probably just sleeping and getting further and further into position, you are soon to have it so things may quieten down some.

Yes, I drove myself crazy late in my last pregnancy with the same question. The baby has less room to move. As long as you feel some activity throughout the day, the baby should be fine.
