Wow! I hope this helps..

First of all, dance to the beat when you're dancing. Once you have that it's a good start. Maybe you're off on the wrong foot to start. My left foot is always on the beat and my right foot helps me to develop new steps in conjunction with my left foot.

Do you practice alot outside of your dance group? Do you enjoy any special type of music that gets you going more than others. If so, get into it with that type of music when you are alone and when you are with the dance group you will see that doing what I suggested helped build up your confidence and you will do fine. Just remember, dancing well will increase your popularity, give you confidence, build up your self esteem and if you're shy now, your shyness will become a pastime.

Good luck. I know you can do it.

Try listening to some artists you like, and it's best if they have a good drum-beat. Then you can start to feel the music and let loose all. Incredibly cheesy, I know, but it worked for me.
