The screen is basically what makes the difference between being limited to basic Shuffle functionality (no playback options beyond whether or not to use Shuffle mode) and nearly the same range of options that you have on the Video (except, of course, the ability to play videos). Yes, the screen is pretty much worthless for viewing photos, but there is always the option of using a special A/V cable to connect it directly to your TV, which is much more suited to the task of showing your photos off. For everything else, just stick to text-only mode (yes, you should probably skip displaying the album covers on the Nano).

Ok, i have a nano, i dont think its pointless. i think the whole ipod shuffle is pointless. i like having a screen., and while it may not be ginormous, how freaking big do u need it? i mean, get some glasses. i need glasses, and i can see it fine, and i think if the screen were any bigger, the proportions would be messed up on the devise. just my thoughts, but hey, at least i answered ur question!

no it's not pointless you still could pick what songs you want to listens to. Not like i pod shuffle whatever songs you download first that's going to be the last song if you download more. Plus for i pod nano you could watch video and choose what you want to listen.
