Get enough sleep. Keep hydrated with plenty of water (even on days with no practice). Stay away from alcohol and caffeine, which can dehydrate you. Bring an energy bar if you get hungry or if it is a long time between meals. Eat a balanced diet with lots of fruits and vegetables, and very little fast food.

Build it up gradually. Go for runs whenever possible, and eat lots and lots of low GI foods to get the energy.
