How do TV Stations work out the ratings? I have never been asked by the stations what I watch so how do they know how many people view a certain show?

There's a company called Nielsen Entertainment who supply viewers with contol boxes, to monitor what shows are being watched. I know they do extensive research to make certain that they have a wide demographic selection of viewers of every age, race, ethnicity, etc., but I have YET to actually meet one of these people that have a Nielsen box. (Maybe they have to sign a contract of silence!!! ;-)

It's the Nielson Ratings. They have households throughout the nation who participate and report what programming they watch which is averaged to determine the percentage of all viewers.
