I cannot figure this out. I went into properties and tried to figure out a way to get rid of the color that appears behind the icons on the desktop. There is not a restore default button or anything. I have windows xp. This is a challenge, but anyone who can figure this out for me gets best answer and mad props. I hope this makes sense what I am asking. Everytime I change a desktop background (wallpaper) I have that stupid color behind the icons! Help!

Ha, I once had this problem. It's really simple really. Right-click on 'My Computer', then Properties. Go to the 'Advanced' tab and click 'Settings' under the Performance section. Under the 'Visual Effects' tab, ensure that the option for 'Use drop shadow for icon labels on the desktop' is checked and voila! Hope that helped :D

Just go into control panel, and open tasklbar and start menu, and you'll find it if you mess around with that. Sorry, go into display, and appearance. Look at your color scheme and change that around, and look in advanced. Okay, I guess it was effects instead of advanced. Not trying to just point, this is an easy fix. Some of us have much bigger problems that are hard to find. (And I don't care about points, what good are they)?
