if your ferret is still a young one, you can give him/her a small portion of wet cat food, with a side of dry food. if you are not sure if they will eat it, add a small amount of water to the dry food to help moisten it. this should make it easier for it to eat.
hope that helps

Three things
1. Kitten food is fine in an emergency. Fed over a long time might give a problem but for one or two days should be okay.

2. Ferrets are lactose intolerant so don't consider milk (even though they like it) The bread and milk diet was a great contributer to shortened life spans of ferrets in the past. So any advice to use this may be well intentioned but is not good.

3. Watch your dog. One of my dogs done the same and was violently sick as i think the ferret food was too rich for him

What do ferrets eat?

Your ferret is a natural carnivore, however, feeding your ferret need not be the nightmare you probably think it should be. You don't have to go out in the dead of night to get your furry friend a bunny, or feed raw meat to it! You can buy a specially formulated dry mix ferret food; though a domesticated ferret will happily thrive on a dry complete mix cat food with the occasional high animal protein tinned cat food for a treat. Choose cat foods with animal protein as the second highest ingredient, as your ferret will digest animal protein easier than vegetable protein. Dry compete mixtures are cheap, easy to dispense, store, have a long shelf life and cause less mess in the cage making this the ideal ferret food.

Food passes through the ferrets gut in about 4 hours so it is essential that ferret food is available at regular intervals or on demand from a 'hopper'. Your ferret should regulate its own weight and only eat what it requires.

Do not give your ferret bones to gnaw on or as toys, they are not good for them at all! You can give your ferret treats as training aids and as a once in a while surprise - only you will know what your ferret likes as a treat try anything you would eat. A drop (literally) of honey on the ferrets tongue from a small squeeze bottle can be used when training as a - 'good ferret' reward if it likes it.

What do ferrets drink? The answer is simple water. Fresh clean tap water is the best and preferred drink for ferrets. Cow's milk should be avoided as this may cause stomach upsets and cause the runs! Goat's milk can be given to lactating mothers and kits if they are not thriving on 'mothers own'.

Cat food is for cats...ferret food is for ferrets! I suppose if you have to wait until tomorrow for the pet store to open you can give it the cat food for now...but never again! make sure the ferret food is out of reach of the dog and keep extra around in case of emergency.

Also...why feeding Marshalls? Its crappy food and makes the ferrets waste smell horrible!!! Is it because of that bogus "birth certificate" the pet store gave you? Feed them something better...I recommend 8in1 ultimate and/or ZuPreem. They will do better on one or both of these.

Good luck and take care of those ferts!

My father had ferrets all his life as he was the neighbourhood food supplier, times were hard he went out all night poaching with his ferrets caught rabbits on coming home he would throw a rabbit in all the neighbours gardens for a meal he always fed his ferrets Saps which was bread soaked in warm milk, also gave them the livers and hearts of the rabbit no ferret food in those days.

Moistened, dry cat food or canned will work for a while with no ill effects to the Ferret.

If you give him moistened cat food it should be ok for 1 day but buy some ferret food ASAP and keep it away from your dog.

Ferrets should be fed raw fresh meat and not tinned or dry anything, I used to feed my ferrets raw steak, it doesn't have to be the most expensive and they don't need much as they are naturally lean animals, they also like a bit of milk. Please don't spoil it by feeding it processed crap!!
