I worked in a family business for almost 10 years on hourly wages. I decided to leave my job because I felt discriminated. I dont have a "brass" nameplate or business card. Since my sister join the company, she paid more than me. Now that I quit and found a better job part time. I am in school too, but I'll lose my benefits. It feels awful because I never was able to claim something of my own or be able to own a house or my own car payments in this family business. My money is less than what I need to pay rent each month. My family paid my insurance. Now, do you think i am discriminated by my controlling family or on the job or both? I got my sister defending people at work and tells me that she has a job to do telling me that I need to let her know what I am going to do instead of backing me up for quitting. I feel insulted by her comments. I felt that my family cut me out because I quit work. People at work lies behind my back and my family take their word for it.

People who work in jobs that don't pay them what they need to live on quit those jobs and find new ones that pay them better. Your disability may make it more difficult for you to find a new position, but many deaf people are productively employed.

If your sister makes more money than you did, perhaps it is because she held a different job or had more experience. There will always be people who make more than you, and people who make less. Be happy for your sister that she is doing well at work, and don't be angry with her because you are putting her in the difficult position of choosing between her sister and her job.

Do well in your schooling and learn enough to get a really good job that pays well and gives you business cards. Then it will be your sister's (and your family's) turn to be happy for you.

well they say never work with family cause things like this always happen they think cause your family that they dont have to pay you like they would a non family member and maybe because of your handicap they feel that way towards you , you should really sit and make them listen to what you have to say .if you have another job thats good it shows them you can get your own job and dont need them but i'm sure they still love you .and thats good your going to school keep up the good work and let people say what they want all jobs have people that gossip they are just bored lonely people that aint got no life , hope everything works out for the best good luck and keep up the going to school.
