I wanted to do it because my wife's name was easier to spell and pronounce and we weren't going to have any children. She was against the idea.

Anyway, in most states, you would need a court order to change to a name that isn't the husband's. I know that doesn't make sense, but no one ever said the law was sensible.

I met a man who did this with his wife. Her last name was bonner and his last name was Seaman. The reason they wanted this, is because her name was Albia. Albia Seaman. I wouldn't want that name for anything in the world. WHY? She is just asking for it. So, he took her name, the famliy was cool with it. They still got a divorce though, so I guess she won't be a Seaman.

My hubby and I talked about doing that when we were married almost 17 years ago.
We decided against it because it would have hurt his Grandma's feelings. She meant more to me than making any kind of social statement, so I took my hubby's last name. We wanted to each have the same last name to show we were a united family.

That process is to be covered by law of the state. Nobody could legally do it except permitted by the law or if the law allows it.
