Compare and contrast the September 11thth, 2001 and December 7th, 1941 (pearl harbor).
Do you think they even belong in the same category of attacks? Do you believe that one was easier to respond to? Imagine you are the President of the United States, realistically, how would you react to each incident.

Note that both attacks involved the use of aircraft.

During the the Pearl Harbor raid, the Japanese Navy used Kate torpedo bombers, Zero/Zeke fighters and Val dive bombers.

The 9/11 attacks used aircraft too, two Boeing 767's and two Boeing 757's.

Both attacks were "unexpected" by America, in saying this, I mean that the American Government knew that both attacks were imminent, they just did not know exactly when they would occur.

I hope that helps.

I don't really consider the two attacks the same at all. Pearl Harbor was an attack by a country which had been in diplomatic negotations with the US. Japan attacked a military target because it was the military that would stop that Japanese advance across the Pacific.

For 9/11 the USA was not actively engaged in negoations with the terrorists. The terrorists attacked an economic target because they want to see the US economy fail.

In 1945 people were much more loyal to the country than they are today. They were willing to stand up with their country in the long run. Today's people want a quick war like a video game or something.

There are completely different. During Pearl Harbor, only military targets were attacked, when the Japanese were fully capable of attacking Hawaiin civilian targets. Furthermore, the United States had, for several years, been aggressively and directly attacking Japanese supply lines and doing direct economic, financial, an human damage to the Japanese country. Thid, 9/11 was conducted by a "terrorist" organization, that existed across and independent of national lines, while Pearl Harbor was a more traditional nation-vs-nation attack. I don't think they are really at all similar.

No comparison. Pearl Harbor was MUCH worse. There- we were under attack by a Country; on 9/11 we were hit by a bunch of thugs who got "lucky". At Pearl- much of our Navy's fleet was wiped out, and it took us MONTHS to get up to speed & respond... -against a VERY powerful & dangerous enemy. On 9/11- we totally over-ran a very weak Talliban in Afganistan, and THEN made the mistake of getting involved in Iraq -which had NOTHING to do with 9/11... Pearl Harbor ment WAR, 9/11 ment a quick, precision response against a weak & localized enemy. Well, we won the "War..."- but we "blew" our response to 9/11. In other words; our President failed us in the attack of 9/11.

To expand on Joshua's answer, both attacks occurred on American soil - something that we have not had by an outside source since we became a country.

Both resulted in poor treatment of citizens of our country who immigrated here from the country of the attacks. In WW2 we put all Japanese living in America in concentration camps, after 9/11 we started racial profiling of Middle Easterners living in the states. Even today a citizen who has strong connection with a Middle Eastern country is treated like they had something to do with the attacks.

Also after both attacks, we became involved in a war as a result of our President's response to the attack.
