just saw these for sale at my local automotive shop. do they work on cars? and if so what should i be looking for when buying one?

Not unless your car is parked in water. Cathodic protection has no effect on the rust that eats your car body.

Cathodic protection? I have heard it does,but I haven't tried it myself. I know we used it on the Aircraft Carrier I was on. To prevent the salt water from rusting out the hull.

supposedly it does. It is supposed to prevent the rust from developing by reversing the electricity that is made when rust is forming. or something like that.

I have always been of the understanding it needs water or moist soil as stated in previous answers.

Do they work ??? Ask me in five years time. I don't know your local but they are readily available here through Canadian Tire and many other auto supply stores.
