Your question fills me sadness.
Why don't you want to take her to the vet????
:*( I cannot believe that after this rat has given you so much of her love in the last few years that you feel so little for her that you would even consider following any information offered in any but two of the answers posted here.
Morally and ethically the only way to end her miserable life is to take her to a vet and have her humanely euthanized. My vet only charges me $10.00 to have this done.
Any other method of killing her would be inhumane, and setting her free is condemning her to a slow, painful, death as pet rats, let alone a sick and dieing rat, are not equipped to survive in the wild. Your responsibility as a pet-keeper is to end her life with dignity.
Rats don't have periods. Sounds like she has a uterine tumor, or a severe bladder infection.

Instead of wasteing your time and money..give it to a rat rescue that can treat it and love it the way it deserves for the remainder of its already short life for being born a rodent. Its a living creature..would you do the same to a puppy? I didnt think so...give it to someone who will fix it up and love it. Shaz

It's only about $10 to have it euthanized at the vet. Not much to pay for a humane end to a pet's life. Maybe you should think about not getting another animal if you can't treat one any better than that.

you want to kill it? then why wouldnt you take it to the vet and have it euthanized? setting it free will probably eventually kill it, rat poison will kill it.. there are many ways that you could kill him, but why would you want to put what you have made a pet through that kind of pain.. rat poison kills them by making them bleed to death, and setting him free will eventually kill him from starvation. If he is a pet to you, then you shouldnt put him through that. Just take him in to be humanely euthanized

I have a cat, or just give it a little rat poison. Were talking about a rat. If you need anymore later, I have one in my attic. When we were growing up, my brother would use a shovel to kill the rats, then catch them on fire, and laugh while he was doing it.
