There are a few tricks you can teach your Guinea Pig like....
Begging:
Hold a treat over the guinea pig's head. He/she will try to get it. Move it up so the pig has to stretch his/her neck to reach it. Keep holding the treat higher and higher, and eventually the pig will learn to raise both front feet off the ground to get the treat. After a while he/she might even learn it so well that he/she'll beg even if you hold the food by his/her nose. One of my pigs does that!
Wheeking on command:
Most guinea pigs learn this anyway... Just associate a certain sound, like a rattling plastic bag, with giving food. Within a few days they will have learned to wheek loudly whenever they hear a bag. You can also use a word, but I've found bags to work the best. Of course, refrigerator doors work too...
Jumping over hurdles:
Have a sturdy hurdle, not too tall, to use for the teaching. Blocks and Pringles cans cut in half do not work, I've tried. A brick works well, as does a piece of wood. Hold a treat by the guinea pigs nose and move it over the hurdle. Probably the pig will strain his/her neck but not leap over. Give the treat and repeat. Eventually the pig will learn to jump over. There are some pigs that prefer to run around them though...
Coming when called:
Basically the same as when you teach a dog to come. Use the piggie's name lots, and when he/she comes up to use pet and give treats. Wiggling your fingers and smacking your lips seems to help too.
Dancing:
Begging must be perfect before you can do this trick. Make the pig stand, then slowly move a treat around his/her head. Keep doing it until the pig learns to rotate a little on his/her hind legs. It takes quite a long time to teach this, and they don't really do it that well, but it can be impressive to see a pig turn in an almost circle on his/her hind legs (mostly)!
Telling when they need to go down:
Its one of the most useful ones, I think. When you are holding your pig and it nibbles on your shirt put him/her down. He/she'll learn fast that nibbling means going down. It reduces the amount of "accidents" they have on you.
Ive also heard if you use a paper bag and put lettuce in it and rattle it wherever the Guinea Pig is it will come to the sound of the bag!!!
