In my opinion, lying is the inability or unwillingness to deal with reality. For a lot of individuals who lie, they tend to view their lives as either too painful or too boring. Therefore, they "create" a world of their own by developing a new host of "facts".

Its the best way to get a good night sleep. Lying down.

well nothing if you can get away with it for a small issue but if not then people stop believing in you and you are caught is a web of lies to defend the ones you spoke earlier sometimes might have to keep a track of what you said earlier for fear of contradicting it earlier.. in short lack of sleep and stress for you. so in my opinion not worth it unless there is a fear of death or something similar :)
