Scottie Pippen was indeed underrated to an extent. Most people overlook him because of his partner: Michael Jordan. People always gave the compliments to Michael Jordan and Pippen did not always get the props he deserved. I say that he was overshadowed by Michael Jordan. That's excusable, though, since he was inducted in the 50 Greatest Players of All Time list.
I think the most underrated of all time was Clark Kellogg. He had a better rookie season than LeBron and he had a geat career, too. He was an elite in terms of filling up the stat sheet. He had unique basketball skills. He only played four seasons due to injury, that's why most people forgot about him. His final averages were 19ppg, 10rpg, .5bpg, 1.5spg, 3apg in 32 minutes of play. Those are some solid numbers, considering that his career was plagued with injuries.

Yes--he is one of the most underrated players of all time. Why? Because everyone says he sucks, and i am sure 99% of those people have never watched a game where he was playing. He was dominant when he wanted to be--if MJ had an off night, he would take over. He would get the crowd fired up. He would make sick passes. He would win the game. And even when MJ was on fire, it was always because of Scottie giving him the ball at the right time in the right place. If you think Michael Jordan is great, then you better think Scottie Pippen is great, too.
He joins the rest of the underrated players:
Allen Iverson (he's still putting up the same numbers he put up to get MVP in '01, and hes 31, when guards are supposed to begin to suck, but noone talks about him)
Yao Ming (nobody talks about him)
Jason Kidd (still gets 11 assists and top rebounding guard in the nba)
John Stockton (the Jazz couldnt stop losing to the bulls..)
Kevin Garnett (hes unstoppable...)
Tim Duncan (dont forget he is still as good as he was when he got 2 mvps)
Karl Malone
Shawn Marion, Amare Stoudamire (they look good with nash, but they are good players by themselves [even though nash makes them much better])
Shaq (See how he took over!! Hes friggen 35!!)
Lamar Odom (kobe is wasting his skill)
Carlos Boozer (look at his stats.)
Marcus Camby (if he doesnt get d-player of the year this year , he is the most under rated defender ever)

I think that Scottie get alot more credit than he deserves. When ever you talk about the Bulls his name will enter the conversation. I do not think that is being underrated. Also he is a hall of famer. Underrated players do not make the hall of fame. I believe the people that are the most underrated in NBA history are the ones that have had colorful lives outside of the game. Many times a player will get tangled up in life and because he makes mistakes outside of the NBA, knowone givesw them enough credit for their game. An example of this is Shawn Kemp. If you are old enough to remember watching Kemp he was a great player. I would say one of the top forwards in history. He numbers mimicked that of Wilkins, but he is not a hall of famer and many people would say now that he was not a good player. Another example that we see right now is the most hated man in the league< Kobe Bryant. He has definitely not been a role model for kids in his action outside of the NBA, but because of that everyone says that he is not a good player. They say that he is nothing without Shaq. That is underrating Kobe big time. You can argue that L.A. has not been able to win without Shaq, but to say that Kobe is nothing without Shaq is absurd.

I think so. He could do everything, score (dunk or hit the 3), rebound, defend on the perimeter, defend down low. When Jordan suddenly retired he carried that team, almost to the Finals. I think two things hurt the way people perceive Pippen though, the time when Jackson called for someone else to take the final shot in a playoff game and he took himself out of the game ( Tony Kukoc still hit the game winner) and when he couldn't go in the playoffs one year because of a headache ( I mean migrain). But he was one of the best.

great player. just lucky to have been with michael jordan and played for phil jackson as a coach. do u honestly think he wouldve been the player he became in seattle (the team that drafted him)? x-man probably woulda popped him in the chops for getting a migraine. and about 3-4 years after scottie got drafted, along came shawn kemp and gary payton. as talented as those 2 were...they were also reckless as hell and undisciplined during their younger years...that woulda drove pippen to his second migraine.

and answer this...do u really think scottie pippen deserved to be on the dream team in barcelona over isiah thomas or dominque? he did just win his 2nd championship with the bulls but at the time he only had 1 (maybe 2)all-star appearance . dont u think jordan had any influence on his selection?

Here are the names of former NBA greats who weren't included in the NBA 50 Greatest Players list but are mentioned most often as deserving of the honor. In no particular order:

Dominique Wilkins
Adrian Dantley
Bernard King
Bob Lanier
Bob McAdoo

You can make a case for Bob McAdoo as the most underrated player for being excluded from the list of 50 Greatest despite winning Rookie of the Year honors in the 1972-73 season, a regular season MVP award, three scoring titles, and two NBA championships. He not only was prolific in scoring -- he showed his versatility by regularly figuring among the league leaders in rebounding, blocked shots and field goal percentage.

In a sense, Pippen is not underrated since he gets a ton of recognition now for being a fantastic player and the difference maker in helping Jordan win his titles. However, you could say since he was never the star of his team he is a tad underrated.

Anyway, I HAVE to respond to the guy who, and I quote, said

"Eddy Curry--Why? Because he is turning into one of the best centers of the game, he is nearly as good as both Amare, AND Yao, but no one pays attention to him because of the team he is on. (Knicks) He also had an attitude problem for awhile."

Is this the same Eddy Curry that gets 3.5 turnovers a game but only .9 assists, .4 steals, .5 blocks, shoots under 60% FT%, and commits 3.3 fouls a game? Good call, I mean, as long as the guy scores 19 a game, it doesn't matter that he doesn't even get 10 rebounds (or even more than 7 rebounds) to make up for his OVERALL HORRIBLE PLAY. The fact Amare and Yao were mention in comparison makes me worry about your knowledge of basketball.

I think dennis johnson was the most underrated player of all time, with Larry Bird, and Kevin Mchale shadowing him, along with Danny ainge, But he was a MONSTER defensive player, and was always able to come up with key steals, and he averaged nearly 15 points a game through his career. Some current majorly underrated players/overrated players are:

Underated-

Eddy Curry--Why? Because he is turning into one of the best centers of the game, he is nearly as good as both Amare, AND Yao, but no one pays attention to him because of the team he is on. (Knicks) He also had an attitude problem for awhile.

Pau Gasol--He is good, but he broke his leg so he was out for a lot of this season, and since he is on the grizzlies, hardly anyone knows him.

Lamar Odom--He is underrated because people don't see him because he's on the lakers, people only see Kobe.

Zach Randolph--He's underrated because his team is losing, but he has a hella talent.

Desmond Mason-- This guy CAN be good, but doesn't always need to be because they have the arguably second best assister in the league :Chris Paul

Allen Iverson-- People think that A.I. is washed up because he got traded, but they are HORRIBLY wrong, one of the flat out best scorers of all time, and also has the ability to assist because of all the attention he attracts on the offensive end.

Carlos Boozer-- He did get the allstar, but he has great foot work and is a pretty good low=post player.

Mehmet Okur--Who say's Nowitzki is the only 7 footer who can shoot threes? Mehmet is one of the league's best clutch shooters.

Overrated

Dirk Nowitzki--He has the jumpshot, but when that isn't falling he is not a great dribbler. He is overrated because his team is winning.

Steve Nash--Overrated due to his 2 (maybe 3) time reigning MVP status, don't get me wrong steve nash is probably the best assister in the league.

Kobe Bryant--Overrated because he was leading scorer last season, and got to 81 points last season. He will be overrated next season too because of the current 50 points games (4 and counting) win streak

Shaquille O'Neal--Overrated because of his dominant performances during the laker dynasty, he's mostly washed up now, Centers like Yao, Gasol, Curry, and Stoudemire are better.

Josh Howard-- ARE YOU KIDDING?!! he made the all stars, just because he's averaging 20 points a game. One Catch, his team has the best record in the league.

Dwayne Wade--He's overated because he's young and people think he's better than MJ, just for winning one championship. He might eventually get there but not now.

Steve Francis--People think he is ok/good. WRONG he is the only point guard in the league who has no freakin' clue how to pass the ball, lol

last, and least-- Chauncey Billups-- He is overrated because he was the finals MVP in 04, but Mr. Bigshot doesn't often make the bigshot.

Never, Scottie was one of the factors which led to Chicago's domination in the 90s, together wih Dennis Rodman and Michael Jordan, they were the driving force of the Bulls.
