hi, I've tried wearing contact lenses, but it took me too long to put them in, so I just went back to glasses. I just tried it the way the optometrist showed me, using one hand to keep my eye open, and reaching from above my head to insert the lense. I just blink too much and it takes me many tries to actually get it in. I found good tricks for taking them out....but has anyone had this problem? How did you learn to put them in faster? Thank you!!!!

Hey Chris, I had your EXACT same problem. The thing that helped me most was practicing. I know it sounds weird - but it works!
A week before actually putting the contacts in, trying opening your eyes properly and bringing your finger CLOSE to your eye (but obviously not in it). By the 7th day, you should be pretty comfortable with that. Once you become very comfortable and able to not blink, contact should be a breeze :)
One thing you should watch out for is putting on a contact "backwards" -- It hurts like a biatch, can fall out, or worse : ruin your eye sight. AVOID IT!

It took me a lot of practice to learn to put in my contact lenses. I've never heard of the reaching from above the head technique. That might be where your problem is. I put mine in from the front. Focus your eye on the contact, so you're looking straight at it. It will be less likely to blink out that way. Really, though, you just need practice--your eyes will have to get used to having an object coming at them. It's normal for eyes to blink when they see something coming at them--so you'll have to do it over and over again so that they'll learn not to blink. It will take some time, but that's normal, so don't give up!

Don't worry about it - it'll come with practice. When I first got my lenses, it took me an hour to put them in and an hour to get them out... some days I'd just give up and get my mom to put them in for me... Now I can put them in without a second thought.
Some people like to look in the mirror while they do it. Personally, if I'm looking in the mirror, there's no way I will EVER get my contacts in. What I do is put the contact on my right index finger (I'm right handed) then I look up at the ceiling (keep both eyes open - I used to close my other eye, thinking that it would help me open the other one wider, but it doesn't, it only makes it WORSE.) and with my middle finger, I pull down the lower lid, and place the contact on my eye. Still looking up, I move my eye around a bit until the contact's on and won't fall off... then I move on to the next eye...

Good luck - stick with it, and eventually you'll get it. Another thing to think of is that if your finger is wet, the contact isn't going to go anywhere - it sticks to the wettest surface, so make sure that your finger is dry and your contact isn't dripping with solution.

Oh gosh, It took me 90 minutes JUST to get ONE in on the first day!! I was sooo nervous I started crying. Then I just relaxed and took a deep breath. I'm assuming your right handed. I put a squirt of juice in so that my eyes stick to it well. When doing my right eye, I get my left hand and pull up my eye lash'/lid. Then with my right hand I have the contact lens on my middle finger and my index finger pulling down. Then I LIGHTLY push. I hold it for 5-10 seconds then pull away. Blink SLOWLY and! voila!! 5 weeks ago I could not even put in EYE DROPS w/o freaking out now I am putting in contacts both in 30 or less seconds!! It tkes pracitce! Best of luck!

Hello Chris,
I've found after 16 some odd years of wearing lesnses and the constant battle to put them in. The best method for me has been to pull down my lower lid while looking up at the ceiling. I don't like things coming at my eye, it's just a basic reflex to blink, therefore if you don't see it coming at you you'll be less likely to blink. Insert the lens then immediately look down so the lens floats into place.

Practice! I wear contacts and it was so hard to but them in at first, but know they're a breeze. I also found that the more you wear a pair of (disposable) contacts, the easier they are to fit in. Becuase they form to your eye. Use your left hand to open your eyelid, put the contact on the top of your finger in the perfect "u" postion. Then put it in your eye. I leave my eyes closed for several seconds to get all the bubbels out. Hope this helps!!

Hi, i wear contact too. here's what i do. i take the hand that i dont write with (left) and I hold my eye lid open, you want to hold it open were the lashes are and hold the way up. make sure the eye is way open. Take the hand that you write with. put the contact on your index finger, dont put the contact on the very tip of the figure, put the contant on the flat part ( a lil below the tip. hold the bottom of your eye lid with you middle finger. and put it in. It might help if u look up so u dont see ur finger coming to ur eye and get freaked out, cause than ur blink. so look up when put them in. But dont let go of ur lids once they are in!! look around (move ur eye around lookin in different direction) than slowly (!!!) let go of ur bottom lid and then your top. If u by accident close your eye while letting go of your eye lids, keep them close and gently tap your eye to get rid of ne bubbles.
that should do it!

I don't have that problem, I can just pop them in real quick, but I've been wearing them since 6th grade. Just open ur eye really big and go slowly. Don't be nervous. You also may want to try looking up a little while putting it in. Good luck
