I've always wanted to keep a journal. I don't know what the appeal is--the self-discipline it demands? the implication that I have so-o-o much important stuff rattling around in my head the world simply must have the opportunity (someday--after I'm dead, of course) of reading it? just having a secret and a pretty book to write it in?

But I'm a lousy journalist. No self-discipline. Boring stuff rattling around. No secrets, no pretty book. And I'm a writer! Writers are "supposed" to keep a journal. Somehow, it's supposed to make you...what, a "better" writer? a "real" writer? Just makes me chafe against the "rules."
