Much of the price of gas is taxes. However, the price of gas in the US is not high compared to elsewhere. In Canada it is around 80 cents a liter, or approximately $3.60 a gallon. In Europe, it's about the same.

What's amazing is both that we are willing to buy it by the boatload from these radical types in the middle east, AND that they are willing to sell it to us. If it weren't for gas, that whole part of the world would be so much sand and camels.

We need to get over our gas addiction and onto something more sustainable. We truly do. Doesn't matter which side of the political fence you sit on.

Gas prices for Americans is still cheaper than they are for any other part of the world. In fact, that is why most other nations use bicycles or small cars. In London for instance, the average cost for gas is around four dollars a gallon and it is sold by the liter instead of the gallon. We have bigger cars, use up more of the gas, and are only now beginning to pay our fair share for use. Also, supply and demand is the simple answer, The more we use, the more we can be charged for it.

Geeze...as if we are ever really going to get an honest answer to that.

Don't even waste your energy trying to figure it out. Those answers go all they way to the top corporate and government entities. We will hear what they want us to hear and we will pay the price. Oil companies had record profits after claiming they had no choice or control.

Also...neither political party is really making a stink about it. Only enough comment to make the people think they care.

Agricultural people say the cost of Bio fuels could even be higher...because we will deplete the stock of grains. We have been paying them not to grow certain crops and paying them for surplus they couldn't sell...but now that they can sell 100% of what they grow...forget all that. It's time to screw the public again.

Figure it out.

It's because the Democrats are in charge of Congress. Hey --- the Dems blamed the Republicans when they were in charge. Now, it's only fair to turn it back on them.

It's because all of Bush's oil-tycoon friends know they're on borrowed time, so they're taking all the profits they can before 2008.
