I always try to balance good value with a few amenities, depending on where the location is.
If we're talkin about the Caribbean, then I look for good snorkeling, good beaches, good food options (either on site or nearby), and clean, decently-sized rooms.
Other services and amenities are superfluous to me.
If we're talking a less-exotic location, then the little things like good service at the Inn, a private, relatively quiet beach, etc.

I want a swimming pool. If it is the off season I look for an indoor pool. If it is April/May i'd like indoor and outdoor pools so if it is cold we could still swim.
I also look for pictures that show and neat and tidy place to stay with the beds neatly made and the furnishing nice. A game room would be a plus with a pool table and air hockey.

a balcony i can dive off and fishing in my front room -a whole in the floor and room must be on stilts over the water
