It's simple math; I doubt it would be the end of the world if something happens to computers. Besides they will just be fixed and life will go on as usual.

I believe it is having an effect on everyone.
Last night, I went to Walmart and bought a gallon of milk and Gram crackers!
The cost was $4.08 and I gave the cashier a $5.00 bill.
I didn't want the pennies back and said I have three cent.
She had already calculated the five and it said I had 92cents coming back but, when I handed the older lady I think she was in her late fifties. Anyway I gave her the three pennies and she truly looked dumbfound about this! I said to her I needed 95 cents back which confused her even more. So she said wait....... just let me give you your 92cents back first which she did. So, I took the 92 cents and gave her the three pennies plus the two pennies she gave me and said ok now here. This is my three pennies plus the two pennies you gave me that makes five pennies. Now can I have my nickel?
Sorry this was so long but it is a true story that happened last night in Walmart here in Merriville Indiana. Now, I'm from Texas here working a shutdown at the Refinery. I know us Texas people are slow but, I can still count slow thrrrrr3+twwww2=fivvvvvv5

I don't think it's necessarily modern technology that is ruining kids. Young parents who don't know how to parent and teachers that don't care to teach. I've seen teachers say we only need 10 to pass the state test to be recognized. They have 20 students, they should be teaching all of them. Yes, I have been in a store where the cashier couldn't figure out that the bell pepper that was 4 for $1 was .25 cents a piece.

At 66 and being a constant reader I feel most worried that youngsters are not being given of a good story book to read by the age of 12. I think anyone in education would agree that TV, and now computers, have done much to stultify thinking. What kids need is bookshelves of good books. The enjoyment and learning obtained from books will be their constant companion throughout life. And learning, both of facts and feelings, are the paramount part of being truly human.

Every generation says that we are destroying our youth. When I was growing up, the older generation was sure we'd all smoke pot, become drug addicts and live like hippies. I'm quite impressed with the young people I meet at my community college, whether they are striving for a GED or a degree, or just taking a class to learn something new. It's too simplistic to think that all young people are idiots, and quite a disservice to the young people who work so hard to better themselves and to the people who care for them and educate them.

I think every generation says that they had it worse then the generation that came after them.
More and more progress is made in daily basis and I guess in some ways life gets to be easier, or at least some jobs.
I do understand what you mean, though.

I don't know about "destroying" them, but we are certainly dumbing them down. I wonder if anyone ever reads "1984" or "Brave New World" anymore. So much that was warned about in these two cautionary books is coming to pass now.

A common fear even among the computer friendly. In my experience there is a backup system where it all else fails use less modern technology.

OMG, and you know what. If we had the internet 25 years ago. Someone would have asked this same question. We are moving foward, what's important is to teach children what they need to know. They pick up the rest. What did you learn and would someone have asked the same question about your generation.
