Animate the subject you're reading.

I sometimes stand up and read.

I walk the floor with the book.

I use hand gestures, - muttering the words I'm reading.

I use emotions to love or hate what I'm reading (agree / disagree).

First of all, make sure you study the material in parts, especially if it's long. Also, spread your studying out over a couple of days or a week, depending on how much material there is. Also, the day before a test, just read over all of the material again, as a review.
Also, this might sound stupid, but make sure you understand the material. For instance, in biology, if I don't completely understand what we're talking about (like, I've memorized all the definitions but don't know really what they mean), then I do worse on the tests. One was to really learn the chapter is to go the library and get some really easy, basic books on the subject. It really works and it really helps! It's nice to have an alternate source to study from, because it might be easier to understand.

my teacher taught me how to RAP.
R - review
A - assignments
P - prepare

we will forget 80% of whatever we have learnt if we do not review it within 24hrs. so it is good practice to review the day's lessons at night. after completing ur assignments, prepare for the next day's lessons. its good to anticipate. =))

always go for 45mins solid then 15 mins break.

all the best.
