My friend has started using this word lately and I don't know what it means. He's also started saying "nugget."
This is slang, but for what?

It is a racist word for a black person.

It came about because of geographical and cultural circumstances ...

Because the climate is so hot in the south, people spend a lot of time out on the porch, esp. in the hottest months, June, July and August.

Before there was airconditioning, life there slowed down a lot in these months, giving the outsider the impression of people being lazy.

So, as racist people made the monkey-black man comparison, the term came about.

Also, it implies that blacks are lazy, just hanging out on a porch all day.

Tell your friend to stop using that term. It is not funny.

A derogatory for a person of african or african american decent. BUT it could also mean a generally lazy person. This term came to be when you think of african americans sitting on there porch chatting it up.

That is an accurate description of blacks. All of them are welfare leeches that just sit on the porch all day and collect a welfare check. Just drive through any black neighborhood during a workday and you will see hundreds of them sitting on their front porch doing nothing.
