Many people don't realize how hard cheerleading really is. I say try out, then tell your friends. Whether you make the team or not, you'll have a new respect for the hard work that perhaps you can share with your friends.

Just soften them up to cheerleading before you tell them. Say stuff like...
"I met Susie the Cheerleader the other day. She was actually nice!"
"I regret being so mean to cheerleaders."
"Cheerleading actually looks kinda fun!"
"Have you noticed how popular cheerleaders are?"
Then after a week or two of doing that, announce your intentions to try out, but don't just leave it at that. Tell them to come watch your tryouts, as if you expect them to be supportive.

Depends what kind of people you are. You could make up an extravagant story about how you want to "get" one of the cheerleaders and how you plan on doing it :from the inside".

Cheerleading is okay but I think you should concentrate on spelling and English classes.

Hmm, I was the cheerleader a time ago, it was fun! You must decide which is more for your desire, the friends or the cheerleading?

try out for it --

life is what you make of it --

would your friends give up on what makes them happy to suit you ? i doubt it

dont overlook something that would make you happy now and regret it in the future for not trying
