I'm 15 and in the past 3 months I've gained about... 20 lbs. I haave ALWAYS been skinny, staying fit was never a problem. I got put on the Depo shot and ever since then I cannot seem to lose weight. I feel like there's no hope. I can't take diet pills because I have trouble swallowing them. How can I lose weight while waiting for the Depo to wear off? I feel so helpless.

You most likely gained weight from the depo shot....a lot of women have that side effect, because the depo shot introduces a lot of hormones into your body. You'll need to get off the depo and start on birth control pills, which will require a prescription from your doctor. Many women report going back to normal once they have been off of depo for a few months.I suggest a brand like Mircette (generic Kariva). Many young women report a low incidence of side effects while taking it.

You have my sympathy. My partner recently went on some meds that made him gain a lot of weight in a very short amount of time. These are some of the things we did: Start the day with a cereal like museli with skim/soy/rice milk, it doesnt have alot of calories but is very filling a nutitious. For the rest of the day have snacks or small meals rather than large meals. Make sure you have a lot of fruit around to nibble on. Eat meat that has had the fat cut off, preferably skinless chicken. The meat portion of your meal should be roughly the size of the palm of your hand. Do not eat rice, bread, pasta or potatoes at night. Try not to eat for a few hours before bed. and drink a lot of water. Avoid juck foods and soft drink. It should help.
Good luck and dont stress!

yeah, depo is rather notorious for causing rapid weight gain.
THAT fast of a weight gain can be a sign of a dangerous reaction, so tell your doctor ASAP.
Try to get off of it, and mebbe try either the pill, patch or IUD.

BTW, difficulty swallowing?????
Is this new, (since the injection) if so, GET TO THE ER NOW.
That's a sign of a SERIOUS allergic reaction.

Increase fluids as much as possible, don't be on your feet all day, but don't sit down all day either. Ask about Lasix. It'll make you pee like a mofo, and will get that water weight off of you.
Sounds like a good bit of that might be water weight.
Push on your skin, can you see where your finger was after you take it off (diff. color. prolly white)?
Also, push on your shin bone with moderate force, if the dent stays, you have edema, and probably need water pills.
Good luck, and call your doctor soon!

ditto to the 1st poster.

if you have gained 20 lbs in 3 months since you started taking Depo it obviously does not agree with your biology. you need to find an alternate form of birth control or pregnancy will be the least of your concerns. creating one problem to solve another is certainly not a viable solution

What is the hurry for a quick fix.?
You can just wait until the weight levels off.
Or if you let the depot wear off you can gain about 20kg and have a baby!!!!!
It is not life threatening to be size 7, especially if as you say you keep active and fit.
Good lesson to you, whatever you do to your body, there will be repercussions.

Well, nobody ever gains weight unless they are eating more calories then they are burning. Your metabolism may have slowed down, which means you have to exericse a little more and eat a little less and then you'll be able to maintain your weight. Don't be concerned with 20 pounds unless its 20 pounds over average weight for your height.

drink lots more fluids, stay completely away from ALL sugar, and avoid carbs as much as possible. Obviously depo is NOT for you.
