About how much does it cost to have a door ding removed from the side of a car door? Are there any other methods that work other than taking it to a shop?

Depending on the size of the ding, dry ice may work, as gretchen has stated.

The low temperature of the ice causes the metal to contract, and can pop a simple small dent out.

Well depends on how new most newer cars such as the 2000+ model years are controled by something electornic. If it is one that pushes in when the door is closed snip the wire and should shut that off.
