No matter what sink I use, or which shower I use, the water just isn't as hot as before. Is the water heater borken? I mean, the water still gets somewhat hot, just not really really hot like it used to.

Could be a number of reasons such as scale build-up, someone tampering with the settings, or a broken fill tube. First check the setting on the thermostat. If that's OK then you may need a plumber to check out the other causes. If you want to do it yourself...get a How-to book on this so you have instructions in hand.

There is a tube in your water heater that directs the cold water to the bottom of the tank causing the hot water to rise out of the top of the tank. These tubes are made of plastic and can break or deteriorate. What happens when thay break is that the cold water no longer goes all the way to the bottom, it now comes in closer to the top and mixes with the hot water as it leaves the tank. The tubes can be replaced for a minimal cost. You need to take into account how old your tank is and if it is even worth having a plumber make the repair. I hope this helps.

above the bottom of your tank when installed. ask the hardware person to show you what a dip tube is you should have a lot more hot water when installed. easy job'''

If your water is getting warm you may have one of your heating elements in the tank that has gone bad. If you have a voltage meter you can test each element to see if you have continuity on each element. This should tell you if it the bottom or top element. Sometimes the elements can be a real bear to remove and replace. Just remember before tackling this job that the water heater has to be drained before you can remove the bad element and replace it.

I had this problem with a tank , first take the covers off to the burners top and bottom. look for a reset switch. first turning off the power to the heater. try this first before you decide to call a pro / or replacing the tank.
