Because it is dead cells and blood.
But make sure you keep yourself really clean during your period to reduce the smell.
Using tampons instead of pads will get rid of the smell also.

Sounds like you really need to wash your tail more often and change that pad too. I mean really what do you expect ,Old blood to smell good or something?

If you use pads, maybe you don't change them enough. If you leave your tampon in too long, it might be smelly too. It's also old blood.
