Bound's hubby here:
Only because this is for an academic paper, will you ever hear me suggest these sites. Check out:
the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence
http://www.bradycenter.org/
Handgun Control, Inc.,
http://www.handguncontrol.org/
the Center for Disease Control,
http://www.cdc.gov/index.htm
the American Medical Association,
http://www.ama-assn.org/
Walmart (a big supporter of gun control).
These are just a few of the organizations that support gun control and suppressing the rights of law abiding citizens.
EDITED TO ADD: It is admirable that as a supporter of the right to own guns, you are willing to debate as a gun control supporter. When I coached debate a long time ago, I emphasized that my students must know both sides of the argument equally well ... if you know what your opponent will say, you can better strike him down! Now, you will have a problem in your debate if you anti-gun control advocate argues the legal definition of a militia, as defined by US Code, Title X, Section 313 (I think this is the proper citation ... but with google search the following combination of terms, together: US Code, militia, and definition). A point you will also have difficulty attacking is that an armed society is a polite society. Another point you want to research is the rash of tourist murders in Florida about 8 to 10 years ago, when Florida passed their concealled carry law .. the ONLY people barred from possessing a concealed weapon were foreign nationals, so they became the prey of the criminal minded!
Good luck.

Consider the history of gun ownership in the U.S. WHY was it written into the Constitution in the Second Amendment?
Attack the "liberalized" view that it ONLY refers to the states having the right to maintain militias. Remember that those Militias (The National Guard) are easily "Nationalized" by a simple order from our President and therefore kills the spirit and original meaning of the 2nd amendment.
Point out that people who lived in the original colonies were REQUIERED to keep firearms to provide protection for those communities.
Also consider What type of government our founders ultimately formed. A government based on a system of "checks and balances". Point out that the right of the individual to keep firearms represents the Final "check" on political power against tyranny! A "check" that was NOT available to those immigrants coming from Europe.
OH! I'm sorry. you posted that your debating MORE "gun control"! I guess it Su-cks to be You!

Benefits of Gun Control:
(1) If you're a dictator, the people have no effective means of resisting you.
(2) If you're a burglar, mugger or rapist, your job is much easier.
(3) If you're a looter, plundering houses in the wake of a disaster, you only have to worry about other looters, and not the rightful owners, stealing the things you stole.
(4) If you're a rioter, you can pillage and burn without worrying about shopkeepers being able to protect their property.
(5) If you're a Jihadi hijacker, you have a much better chance of taking control of the airplane.
(6) If you're an invading soldier, it is much easier to subdue and subjugate the local populations.
(7) If you're an ecofreak, you won't be able to save yourself when wild animals choose you for dinner.
(8) If you're a hoplophobic liberal retard, you can more easily pretend that you live in a Utopian world of peace, love and happy, anthropomorphic woodland creatures.

you should find the pro gun control organization websites and read their information. Former press secretary James Brady from the Reagan era is big time pro gun control and probably has a website with lots of info.

Criminals love gun control. It makes their job so much easier because fewer law-abiding people will have the means to defend themselves against these scum (who gun control will never effect).

I have seen statistics that show that people that have gun permits commit the least violent crimes with their guns, presumably because they are more responsible. I can't remember where I saw that though, sorry.

It's good for the criminals, because they love unarmed victims.
Do you seriously believe that CRIMINALS would give up guns because they're forbidden?

Thought you might appreciate this . . . ..
In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------
In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated..
------------------------------
Germany established gun control in 1938 and >from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------
China established gun control in 1935. >From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------
Guatemala established gun control in 1964. >From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------
Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------
Cambodia established gun control in 1956. >From 1975 to 1977, one million 'educated' people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
-----------------------------
Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million.
------------------------------
It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their own government,a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars. The first year results are now in:
Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent
Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent
Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!
In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns!
While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.
There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the ELDERLY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in successfully ridding Australian society of guns. The Australian experience and the other historical facts above prove it.
You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information.
Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.
Take note my fellow Americans, before it's too late!
The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them of this history lesson.
With guns, we are 'citizens'.
Without them, we are 'subjects'.
