Don't stress over songwriting, hone your craft with well crafted songs, in time the muse will strike, but it is essential to cement the fundamentals - - -- -- and do not limit yourself to songsin the genre you prefer - - - learn to adapt excellent songs from all genres to the style of music you & the band play.

Peace

PS Whatever you do please avoid writing sappy love songs about how useless & pathetic you are because your one true love thinks you're skuzz.....

With me, song writing it kind of like a venting of everything going on in my life. Sometimes when I'm not being very interesting I write about regular things like a drive in my car to get away, or my favourite place in the world at the moment. Inspiration can be anything. I took a class once and the instructor said to gather 5 random things in a room and try and connect them in some way, maybe even relate it to something going on in your life. It surprisingly turned out really well; you should try it. Also try free writing.. all you need is a pen, paper and your mind. Write about anything that comes to your mind for about 5-10 minutes, go away for a couple hours, then re-read it and see what's popped out of your head. It's really different for everyone. Best of luck!

Hello? You find inspiration in the music that you listen to. The world around you.... God, I don't know if I'd want to listen to your band after you just confessed that you don't know what to write about. You'll end up like the All American Rejects. Popular but a waste of time. Not anything you'd listen to if you had an appreciation for REAL music.

Don't bother - start by playing covers. This is how you solidify your sound, and get used to how the other guys in the band play, their style, etc. get known in the clubs, etc. Then think about adding a little of your own music - by then, you'll have plenty to write about.

New bands that don't start by playing known songs...don't get heard. No one will take a chance on them.

Firstly, find inspiration in your own life. Write about the past. Or what's going on in your life. for example, you've just been thru a relationship, so write about it. Make use of the break up!

Or if you've failed to achieve something...
Or if you feel that your life is going astray. I don't know bout being happy...lol

All music should be based on true and real feelings. Today you may love your girlfriend extremely, write it down. Tomorrow you may hate her guts, write down. Some times it may sound as if you are contradicting your self; but it's OK as long as you are being real, someone can always identify.Music= poetry, life, feelings, and words that can sometimes be magical/inspirational.

what style of music are you wanting to write? you should try to write about things that would fit in with whatever genre the other members will be contributing to musically. inspiration can come from different places and for me, i usually just pull from my own experiences. on occasion, i have tried to write about things that have happened to other people. you could also read/watch current news to get inspired there... talk to your bandmates... get some ideas from them.

Write about what you know to be true. If you hit your knee on a desk - write a song about it. Because 456,543,211 people did the same thing. ALL of them will buy your record.

You get my point?

ooh an aspiring writer i see?
well me, i get my inspiration from life, from random things i see
from random things people see but i see meaning in them
or i take things and make them have meaning
it's so cliche to write bout your girlfriend/boyfriend troubles or bout love or things like that
but
it always makes a good song/poem
lol
just take things that have meaning to you
or not
start out by trying to write bout something random
it helps get that creative juice flowing ^_^

write about your life, your stories, and only what you know about. when you start writing about stuff that you dont know and havent experienced, it will start to sound really fake and forced. just write down what comes to mind and keep a notepad with you at all times so you can write it down when you think of it and dont risk forgetting it
