If you look at the history, the answer seems to be yes. Both Cowher and Noll came from defensive backgrounds and were pretty much nothing when they were hired by the Rooneys. The Rooneys know what they're doing when they pick their Head Coaches. They like to go outside the house, and they like good defensive minds...not to mention they always pick someone who the fans come to love for the simple fact that they have heart and love for the game.

As for next season, I don't think we're going to be seeing a championship or anything, but I DO think we'll see an improvement. Bruce Arians as QB coach should allow Ben to have a comeback season after his less-than-mediocre year of accidents and mistakes.

The loss of Joey was big, but remember Kendrell Bell? He was great when we had him too and now he's nothing. He recorded a decent number of tackles with the Chiefs last season, but only 1.5 sacks. Why? Because he left the Steelers. I'm not saying I wish suckiness on Porter. I'm saying the Steelers know how to condition and utilize their LBs. We just signed Marcello Church, a LB from Florida State, so we'll see what he has to offer. I'm also hoping we'll be able to pick up Paul Pusluszny (don't know if that's spelled right) in the draft. He's considered one of Penn State's best LBs EVER...and Penn State is known for their great LBs.

Depends on how long he is the Coach. I'm just not thinking they do it this year with all the changes, including a new center. If he gets the 15 years Cowher had then for sure I think they will. If for some amazingly odd reason he only has the 3 under the contract(at least I think it was 3) then I have less Confidence in it. It wouldn't even be him or the team that I am judging by alone. They are my team, thing is that most of the AFC is really good too. I mean you do have to GET to the Superbowl to win it.

So Raze the fact that Kitna(who has always done great against the Steelers and I was more concerned about him then Palmer) goes in there and just kicks the Steelers' *** the first half means nothing? Oh yeah because he wasn't Palmer he forgot how to play in the second half, it wasn't the Steeelers. As to questionable calls, you mean like the WRONG call the refs made when they said Troy didn't intercept that pass when they review it in the game against the Colts? Steelers STILL won. The NFL APOLOGIZED. The ref either knew it was the wrong call or should have been fired, and probably should have been anyway. You play through questionable and even bad calls. A good team wins anyway. Although I remember the two step fumble that wasn't going AGAINST the Steelers. Yeah I always thought that running forward was a FOOTBALL MOVE. I guess it isn't anymore. See you only remember the calls you WANT to remember. There were questionable calls both ways. The Steelers were just the better team because they got past them.

Since Mike Tomlin is a defensive oriented coach, it all depends on the O.

1 Ben cannot try to save the world on the football field.
2. O coord. needs to be a little less predictable.
3. Another back needs to emerge.

On the plus side, the Steelers O line was humbled last season. They probably didn't work hard in the off season and they looked like they were practicing screen passes all last season, That happened the season before, remember? Then Ben and Charlie got hurt, and the other teams sent the house all the time to stop the run because Tommy Maddox was not going to pass on them. The line toughened up and they went on to a great season.
Here's to hoping

Yes, and this is coming from a Cowboys fan.

I do not care for the Steelers, but I respect their franchise. They do not bend or sway based on public or fan opinion in the head coach. They support their coach, as like players, the coach is a part of a the personnel team. If there is a failure he is blamed, but rarely the problem. When Bill Cowher's head was being called for..he received a raise from the organization. It was their way if saying we stand behind our coach.

Mike Tomlin is here to stay. History strongly suggests that If he stays in Pittsburg for any period of time he'll win a Superbowl. Which Pittsburg coach has not won a Superbowl?

Thats tough, last year they were bad and they only lost players in this years free agency. They have done nothing to improve their team. Mike Tomlin may be a good coach but without the players no coach could get it done. Considering Cincinnati and Baltimore, and even Cleveland getting better, it will be tough for them to do anything until they can improve their offense and defense. Ben Rothelisberger may have had a bad year last year, but what will make him change this year. Their defense only got worse now that Porter is gone. A division title wont be in their hands for a long time. As far as Superbowl, it doesnt look likely. Even if they make it to the playoffs, the AFC is so dominating with the Patriots and the Colts and the Chargers. Maybe if they improve their team, but definetely not for a long time.

No, I think they got lucky last year. If Carson Palmer doesn't get hurt that game probably would have ended diffrent, then they get some calls that go their way in the Superbowl. I thought the Bengals were better than the Steelers that year, and after watching the Superbowl, I know the Seahawks were a better team.
