Hamsters teeth grow throughout their entire lives. They need to chew in order to keep them trimmed down, otherwise they may overgrow, causing damage and making it difficult if not impossible to eat. One option would be to give you hamster things to chew on, flavored wood chews from the local pet store for example. If she is not used to being handled, that could explain her biting you. Otherwise, it may be for the same reasons. There are several other reasons that a hamster would chew, but I would start there and see if things improve.

Ok, me and my friend breed and we see this quite often. here are some things to look for:
1. Is the hamster living with another hamster? If it is and it is a male it is very likely that it is pregnant.

2. Chewing bars
All of our countless hamsters are notorious for bar chewing. It is a tell tale sign that she is bored with what she has. Provide her with some hammie safe toys from the nearest pet store such as chewing blocks and paper towel rollers. If it really bothers you too much, mover her to a glass tank.

3. Moody female behavior
Female hamsters are notorious for being moody and getting PMSy. Don't worry, it isn't permenant and she will get over it. It is all natural. Just make sure to spend a lot of time with her and trust me, she probrably only nipped you. I have had some pretty nasty hamster bites and I can tell you that Precious didn't give you a really bad one.

My nearest and dearest hamster bit me so hard that in the middle of a pet store blood was dripping down my arm and on to the floor in a second flat, but I worked hard with her and lavished her with my love and now, she does nothing more than lick.

Do not ever reprimand them for biting or nipping by hitting, flicking, or throwing them.

When a hamster gnaws at its cage bars, it usually is a sign of a nutritional imbalance. Most cages are made of metal, and this could be the hamsters way of getting enough iron in its diet. However, if your hamster cage is made of plastic, perhaps the hamster is seeking to escape and put the bite on you. Incidentally, I'm not an animal lover.

Hamsters generally chew the bars of their cage because they are bored and as she is biting it sounds like she is not being taken out enough.

I can assure you that she is not sick or ill. But you need to make sure she comes out every single day and exercise in one of those big plastic balls, they really love it. Also ensure she has lots of treats and toys in her cage. Get the hamster cereal bars to hang inside the cage. I garentee she will prefer chewing those to the bars in the cage!! go to your local pet store for wood pieces she can chew on to. Shred up lots of unscented and unbleached tissue around the cage and watch her run around, stuffing it in her cheeks, and carrying it off to make a bed. They are little creatures but need constant attention like any other pet.

My hamster is over a year old and he has a MASSIVE cage, im not joking, its huge, and even he gets bored. If he comes out for a play, he will chew his bars when me or my husband put him back. But he does not bite, ever. Your litttle friend needs more play time with you, some interesting treats to chew on in her cage, and more exercise. I hope this helps and you go on to have lots and lots of fun with her.

is she used to human handling? she may be bored if she is biting her cage. remember, hamsters NEED to have wood to chew on so that they can keep their teeth at a deirable length. it could be that she was testing you to see if you were something that would help her teeth if you have nit given her wood or other such things to help keep her teeth down because they are always growing.

Definitely angry! The best way to tell though is if she doesn't speak to you , loses interest in hobbies, stops seeeing friends, etc. Does she have a Mr. Hamster? If not theres your answer. I know I get crabby when I haven't had any for a while.
