That 'earthy' smell you describe could be the sink drain needs to be cleared with a little Drano. Might be something growing down there. Yuck. Mine gets that way once in a while, and I especially notice it when the weather begins to get a little warmer. Hope this works for you.

It does not matter how much you clean you must use the right cleaners for cleaning, I would like to suggest using White Vinegar to clean, not only is it less expensive but it will clean and deodorize, disinfect, remove stains from all surfaces but this vinegar is a all purpose cleaner that is safe and is touted as the best dsinfectant in the world, it can also be used to clean and soften your laundry and cleans cars inside and out, just use Vinegar neat on a cloth or mix half cup to half cup of warm water in a spray bottle

Mine tends to smell like whatever I have cooked for a little while after I have cooked, but after washing the dishes, and cleaning the stove and what not, it usually ends up smelling like my dish soap.
Cooking odors do tend to stay in some kitchens longer, depending on ventilation, and circulation, filtration, the works :). Try cooking with an exhaust fan on, that should help, and also, try using Palmolive Oxy dishsoap for your hand wash dishes, it seems to do really well for me.

You may have to give some thought to what you are cooking and what spices and herbs you are using--odors can linger in curtains, tablecloths, and on walls. Most people don't scrub down their walls, so you may be stuck with it.

do you have a garbage disposal? try running it with the cold water on for a while, with some oranges or lemons. try placing baking soda in cupboards, or scrubbing stinky surfaces with a baking soda mixture
