We rent a mobile home with our 3 year old son and 1 year old daughter, and live next door to our landlords in the country. They had a few homes to rent out,and a couple with a 2 year old girl moved in.I wanted to invite them to our daughters' birthday party next month.Should I go ahead and invite them even though I don't know them,or should I just forget about having them over?

I used to be very open, but I am no longer. I would do what #2 response says, and watch their habits and be outside when they are, and sort of casually meet that way. I wouldn't be bringing over a gift. I would size them up before doing anything. Sometimes people who live in mobile homes turn out to be what is euphemistically (!) called "trailer trash". The last thing you want to do is invite friendship with that sort. I know it is nice to have companionship, but you are secluded out there, and the last thing you want is a nasty situation to develop where you have to avoid them for some reason. Just err on the side of caution, would be my advice.

Well, you have a small window of time, yet. Why not make a little extra effort to meet them, ahead of time, and then make your decision based on that. Maybe take a little "house-warming" type gift over and introduce yourself... and see what happens.

Go to thier home, introduce yourself, welcome them. Tell them about the party and tell them it would be a great way to get to know the neighbors. Tell them no gift is required, maybe bring chips or something.

Why not just go over and say hi, see how the kid's plat-act and you know if you want them there or not.

Smile and be nice.
