Try to find names that aren't similar, for example, you wouldn't choose Jules and Julia or Peter and Petra. This is to avoid confusion of the reader.

I particularly like these names:
Girls: Samantha, Rita, Jewel, Layla, Kat.
Boys: David, Nathan, Mick.

Try to find names that seem to fit the character's personality.

There is plenty of time for names - you dont really seem to know very much about these people or about the plot for the story yet. My suggestion is to start with some brainstorming - just writing down all kinds of ideas no matter how silly they sound - then try putting some of them into a cohesive plot. Remember there are always subplots. Nobody has just one thing going on in their life at a time! When you have some sort of a plot, outline it. Then start doing character analysis and studies. THEN you can worry about names. You can just go to baby name sites or get yourself a baby name book. I have Anne Geddes Baby Names beside my computer all the time. I like to choose names that have meanings that suit my characters. Other people use credits from movies to choose names, obits, almost anything. You can even get the census office list of most common surnames in the US to ponder. Right now, names are the least of your problems. Good luck- Pax - C

Make the names fit who the characters are. Spend some time figuring out what kind of people they are, and what kind of community they are a part of. "Ordinary teenagers" can mean so many different things. Where do they live? What are their family's cultures? What are their personalities like?

Then, take a browse through an online directory of baby names until something catches your eye. Here's one to start with:

The names should be a reflection on the nature of the character. Are they sly? Gentle? Easily fooled? Manipulative? Aggressive? Impulsive?

The name should also fit in with the time and the place. ^o^ You didn't give enough information, really...it should be cumunitive of the attributes. I always pick names after the character is developed, if not on paper than in my mind.

i would choose names that are ordinary, as you are placing them in an extraordinary situation. I would choose something like Laura Jameson, Luke Smith, Andy Kramer etc.... so people can focus on the story and not distracted by fancy names.
