My friends and i are planning to go to this Small resort island in Thailand for a short holiday.One of my friends mentioned it is a little risky as it was located at the southern side of Thailand and currently there were choas .Is it safer to take a fly there instead of taking a coach? Pls advise Thanks

Yep , I think its very safe . The only problems seem to be on the mainland around the Malaysia border.
Always safer to fly in Thailand as some of the coach and bus drivers as well as the rest of the drivers on the road seem to drive like lunatics.
You can fly straight to Koh Samui from Bangkok with Bangkok air.
