i need help getting a prom dress. i have about a hundred dollars to spend. when i went to homecoming last year, someone had the same dress as me and i don't want that to happen again so i don't want to do a department store.

does anyone know where i could find a place that would almost guarantee that i wouldn't have the same dress as someone else? i can't do really private b/c they might be SUPER expensive. i'd take the names of any places that could be in silver spring, maryland. or a way to search for a boutique or something like that. or what about big places that are everywhere? thanks a lot.

try local consignment stores and even goodwill.
sometimes people even put prom dress in the newspaper...
If you dont want some one else to have the same dress as you i would try to not pick a simple dress or ask the store what the best sellers are and not pick on of those. I would also have colorful accessories so if someone for some reason does have your dress it will be different because you will have very colorful accessories

I think your budget will be your biggest obstacle. You can try sites like Bluefly.com, Overstock.com, and even eBay. As far as not having the same dress as someone else, you may have to be willing to take risks and/or think outside the box... ie: try on dresses you wouldnt normally, or dresses that most people wouldnt try on because they dont look good on the hanger. You might be surprised when you look in the mirror. Maybe try something classy rather than flashy (classy, NOT boring... think Jackie-O or Audrey Hepburn). Or try shopping in the missy formal wear department rather than the juniors department where most others will be looking. I think someone else mentioned accessories as well, which I agree with. No matter which gown you choose, you can make it your own with your accessories. For instance, if you choose a basic black dress, you could choose one bright color as an accent in jewelry, a sash/belt, a flower in your hair, and/or a fun bag.

if you only have 100 dollars to spend, regardless of where you are going to go you'll probably have a dress that someone else already has. if you have like 300 dollars then it's very easy to find something that noone else has because at expensive stores, they write down what people buy and for what prom/function it's for so you don't run into situations as such.

You might try E-Bay, they actually sell a lot of prom-like dresses. If you watch the right auctions, you can definitely stay on-budget.
